The problem with killing the herpes virus and others is that they hide in the body. Now "U.S. researchers reported they may have found a way to flush out herpes viruses from hiding," according to new Duke University research reported on by Reuters/MSNBC.com. The impact of that is if the virus is out of hiding, it can be killed. The only treatments available currently suppress the virus but don't eradicate it.

"Studies suggest that STDs are no longer just an affliction of the young" according to a study by the journal Sexually Transmitted Infections writes Tiffany Sharples for TIME.com; and furthermore, "researchers at England's West Midlands Health Protection Agency found that in less than a decade, STD rates had more than doubled among people ages 45 and older." With more tools in recent years to boost the libido and sexuality in mid-life and beyond, for example Viagra and online dating, maybe more effort also needs to be made to educate people on STD prevention.

Boinkology has a post about the STFree.com "Safe Sex License." After signing up for a license and asking your doctor or clinic to send your test results to STFree, "then, when you meet someone you’re looking to bone, they can call up the hotline and verify that, yes, you recently tested negative," according to Lux Alptraum. Questions come to mind about privacy, but it seems like a step that could easily be added to the usual pre-dating research via Google routine.
